Port Town

I dreamt  I was on a sort of cruise ship to a port town. It was down a long narrow waterway. The ship wasn't a joy ride kind of cruise. It was more necessary transportation that was enjoyable with rooms, dinners, and so on. I was invited to dine at the captain's table, and felt like it was an honor, but had to refuse as I was with a new coworker that didn't want to be alone as well as a man I wanted to see as well. I told the captain about the situation and we were all invited for the rest of the journey/stay. My days were spent working on a site. I'm not sure quite what the project was, but some of it involved some labor, clearing, and prepping of grounds. The end of the workday had passed, but there were still items to clean up and I was helping some of the local crew pick up. I went back to the ship for dinner. I hadn't time to dress up, nor the energy, so I put on some jeans, a red sweater, and some heels. My man of interest looked down from a few seats away and saw the heels. Most of the table had already completed their dinners as I was late working. I think he thought I may have dressed up for the captain who was known for his flirty nature. I was sharing niceties with my dining neighbors when I noticed my friend left. I was too tired to deal with the thoughts he might be having. I continued with my meal until most of the table had cleared. The captain asked me to his cabin for a drink. It was done in a formal polite way and I was honestly curious what his suite looked like and enjoyed talking to him, so I said yes. Back at the cabin, he offered me a drink and then turned into his rumored self. I mentioned, very politely, that I was recently out of a relationship and no longer had it in me to settle for something light. I wanted what I wanted. He appreciated the honesty and the politeness. We together discussed how the ship was his true love, what he gave himself too. I so loved that explanation. He enjoyed the company of others, but he gave his heart and soul to his ship, his life as a captain. It was a new thing for me to see this type of relationship and in a very positive way. I went to find my friend. He was alone in his cabin. We were not in love with a ship ...
