asteroid

I dreamt that I was having dinner with friends. The host lived on a hill that overlooked the land. The house had been there for years and had ornate trees around the back deck and was cute and homey. We were having lobster as part of our dinner and my brother was placing them on the plates. The lobsters were navy blue (which seemed normal) and you would place them on their back completely in the shell with their heads still on. Mine was placed on my plate but I could see its legs were still moving. I was upset and said mine is still alive. I couldn't eat it that way of course and felt bad for it. My brother said he knew what to do and took an knife... I could see two exposed veins that were attached to the shell with a clear membrane. He cut both of them and I could feel the lobster's spirit leave. It was a very sad feeling as if it were taking part of me with it. We all continued to set the table and prepare. Christopher Plummer was our host and he was very pleasant and everyone was in good spirits. Then I heard a whistle. It reminded me of a bottle rocket or the sound in a cartoon when something is falling from the sky. I moved away from the table umbrella to see. I saw a large fire-y asteroid fall a good 50 miles away towards the earth. I knew immediately that it was serious and that the damage would move fast. I knew we couldn't out run it, so I told everyone to run into the house. I figured if the house survived, it was the only chance we had. If it didn't, we would have died anyway. I looked out where the asteroid had hit so far away, and could see the tops of trees flaming already coming up the hill. We all ran and all of us made it in the house... through the mud room and into the kitchen with both doors shut, but two girls. I'm not sure if they hadn't heard us, but it was too late to let them in. We could hear them screaming outside, but there was no move to open the door. It would have killed us all. We were not cold people, but just were very clear about that outcome. We still were not clear if the house would go up in flames or not. I was sitting on the counter in the kitchen, most of us huddling together. I though for a moment if I should find a butcher knife and just slit my wrists. The thought of dying by flames seemed awful. Then I figured dying by cutting my own wrists didn't seem so great either, so I might as well let fate take its course. Ashes were falling outside the window. I reminded everyone not to breath the ashes, to get a mask or a scarf or something to cover their faces. It seems were were in the clear, so we started to walk towards the small town that was down the mountain near the lake (the side away from the asteroid). The people in town were aware of what happened, but no one seemed in a panic. Also no one was covering their faces and children were playing in the falling ashes. I had an urge to alert everyone, but knew I would be putting out a lot of effort for something that was most likely too late. We had to just keep on moving to a clearing and decide what to do next.
